Income protection<br/>Fact vs fiction 2

We’re back to clear up a few common myths about income protection to help you get the most out of your policy.

Here are 3 more myths debunked:

1. The only function of my income protection policy is to pay my claim if I can’t work.

❌ False

Paying a regular benefit when illness or injury stops you working is the core purpose of income protection, but your policy does much more than that.

Your policy also:

Supports your return to work - gradually if needed
If you can go back to your own job part‑time after a claim, or you return to a different role on lower pay, we can continue to pay a proportionate or rehabilitation benefit for a period - helping bridge the gap as you recover. We covered return to work support in the first edition of Your Member Roundup. You can find the article here.

Keeps covering you after a claim
Your policy doesn’t end once you’ve claimed, you can claim again, including for different illnesses or injuries.

Gives you access to free health & wellbeing services - without making a claim
As a member, you (and your immediate family) get access to HealthWise, our free app offering: unlimited remote GP appointments, physiotherapy, mental health support, second medical opinions, dietitian and lifestyle consultations, and an annual Health MOT. Using HealthWise doesn’t affect your premiums.

2. To claim, I need to be unable to carry out any work at all.

❌ False

We focus on your specific job and normal work! If your illness or injury prevents you from doing the main duties of your job, you can claim – you don’t have to be incapable of all work.

3. Once my claim is approved, The Exeter will pay me.

✅ True!

The amount you receive will depend on your financial assessment. Your claims assessor will guide you through exactly what is needed and support you every step of the way.

You can find out information on all of these busted myths in your Policy Document.
