In September 2019, the Association of British Insurers published a report by the New Policy Institute 'The impact of individual income protection on universal credit and the implication for policyholders', to provide more clarity on the potential interaction between individual income protection and universal credit.

The New Policy Institute analysed anonymised data on the age, sex and earnings for a sample of 260,000 policyholders with four companies to understand:

  • the demographics and characteristics of individuals who purchased income protection
  • the interaction between income protection and universal credit
  • why it matters.

The Exeter was one of the four companies who contributed to the report and it is well worth reading.

The full report can be found here and is classed as unstructured CPD which counts towards your 15 hours.
